Thanks for all the advice and well wishes. Some of you had really interesting thoughts on the dream analysis subject. In a way, I think the dreams were warnings, and in a way I think they were just dreams. I don’t take drugs, and I’m not holding back anything I’d like to say. I know the drugs thing wasn’t literal, but I just wanted to clear that up!

I was just reading this report about tutors giving student athletes answers to online exams in advance, as well as typing papers on their behalf. Sometimes the tutors would be present while the students are taking online exams, as well as fill in quiz answers (I don’t know if this is online or if the tutors were TA’s and thus grading the quizzes, it’s kind of ambiguous in the report). FSU’s report states the tutor said he has been providing student athletes with answers for tests since Fall 2006. Twenty or more football players may be suspended from future games because of this, and some athletes from other sports as well. Such a big suspension (20+) has occurred in 2000 by the Wisconsin Badgers; 26 football players were suspended for 1-3 games “for getting unadvertised price breaks at a shoe store” (Schlabach, 2000, ESPN.com).

I’ve heard of someone at USF that has girlfriends and the like do his term papers and help him with online exams. I’ve always suspected that students who get athletic scholarships with little academic merit got “extra help.” I always thought it was in the form of free private tutors, though. I never suspected that the tutors gave them answers and actually did their reports. Of course this must be an extreme case, I’m sure there are those who get in based on athletic ability and then strive to be successful in their academic careers as well. There must also be those who were good at both to begin with, right? Personally, I think these student-athletes who do well in both arenas, on their own merit, are great examples of what dedication can bring.

Dedication is the key. It’s the key to unlocking the future of your dreams. For a select few, good things come easily. For majority of us, though, we must work hard to accomplish our goals and achieve true joy.
