I’m Going To A Talent Agency!

I went to Shivon’s page and got uber jealous of her modeling talent. I thought, “Hey, why can’t that be me?” Then she sent me an inspiring e-mail about how she got started and encouraged me to give it a go. So, when I went to Publix today to buy my SunPass, and passed by a Talent Agency, I decided to stop by.

The lady there was nice. I asked her what all the requirements are, and she said basically there’s an interview, and if they like you, you have to pay to do the photoshoot, headshot, and comp cards. Then they’ll get you jobs and you keep 80% of what you make. The other 20% is their comission. You’ve gotta wear a bikini to the interview so that they can prick and prod your body and write down all the little scars that you have.

She said I can only do print/commercials and stuff since I’m only 5′5″. I knew that already, though. I’m not looking to be a Top Model anyway, I just want to earn some well needed cash for school. And if I’ve got the look, for it….why not? The problem is I don’t know if I have the look/body type. I guess I’ll find out when I go to the interview!

I’ve been experimenting with making glitter graphics. I’m not that good yet, but I’m hoping to improve. They’re actually fun to make!

ohmygosh, good luck at your interview! That sounds really great, and it's so cool that you can do that that easily. Wow. I'm sure you're going to rock! =]

That sounds exciting. Good luck with your modeling career. I couldn't wear a bikini I have too many imperfection. Hope you make good money.

Anya!!! Be extremely wary agencies generally are scams. You really shouldn't have to pay for ANYTHING. I never have. I went to an agency awhile back where the sold me the same story and they were telling me they could get me a job as an extra in a movie and I had already heard about the job and my friend was already doing it without an agency. We had heard about it on Craigslist. We went and got to keep 100% of our money AND I'm in the trailer. If you want you can send me another email or im me and I can help you out the way that I do things. <3 Voni

Good luck with the modelling! I hope it goes well for you and it doesn't turn out to rip you off.

Wow! You had the guts to go to a modeling agency. That's really awesome. I wish I was as brave as you. Hopefully it's not a scam, and you will make some decent money to help out with school. I never really liked glitter graphics, but it's good that you're having fun making them, at least. As long as a site owner has fun making things they put on their site, it's fine by me. Just so you know, this is a really old Despair comment. Sorry it took me so ridiculously long, but I figured better a month late than never.

iknow. people talk. i just hate to talk too much, you know, especially about other people, my issues, yea, their mines, but worrying about other people, nope, its 08, and im trying to change.

lol, awesome =) i think i'm with shivon on this, though; be careful if you're required to pay for it. too many agencies are making money off hopes & dreams. some take your money and disappear. others are horrible in their business, as they make promises they can't keep, or they have no knowledge of the industry. do your research on the place you went to, first. simply because they claim to be a modeling agency certainly doesn't mean they're any good. i work as a marketer for diane von furstenburg, and i've never heard of any of the models being charged fees for interviews. do your shopping before you jump in.
