July 29, 2008   Filed Under: Life, Recession   189 words

I’m talking about prices. The stuff that we want to buy are too expensive. And the stuff that we don’t really want or moreso need, for that matter, are getting cheaper. I’m talking about airline tickets to go to funerals, food, gas, and cars. Who really wants to buy a new SUV now? Even if it is 1/2 price? I bet you I’d scoop it up if it went to $800 though! I was looking around for the cheapest tickets to Jamaica and they are ranging from $450-a little over $2000! I saw a few for $366-388, but then you have to wait at the airport overnight for a connecting flight. :(

And houses! My mom was looking at foreclosures in our area and they are getting really low! Some of the communities near us are in foreclosure with 4br/2ba for less than $80,000. I’m talking single-family, standalone homes with private backyards. Definitely beats the townhouse with a shared little strip (I don’t even think you can call it a backyard). And prices will probably go lower!

Well, like the AllState guy said, “If this isn’t a recession, it sure feels like one…”

Hi!
I’m sorry for this delayed comment.
Anyway…so,the price of houses in US is still going down eh? it’s a good to those who are trying to find a house? one of my professor totally took the chance…i think he bought 2 houses or something…

Yeah, the economy is seriously declining. I hope things get better before they get any worse. I feel sorry for single parents trying to make it on a fixed income. It’s just hard on the already, now its 2-3x worse :\ But, I hope God has a way (Which I am sure He does). <3

I totally understand what you are saying about the prices. The economy is SO jacked up its crazy. I just went to Miami and the plane tickets were actually kind of cheap. So you might be able to find something cheap going out of Miami since it’s right there on the water. But I would recommend not to fly out of Miami b.c the airport is CRAZY, try ft. lauderdale. Good luck with ur trip.

Even if it was $800 would you still buy an SUV? Gas would shoot that price to triple that of a car. But the house, buy that! I don’t even have a yard, or a balcony, or barely a view, or anything…

I’m back! Also I’ve kinda changed my blog…like a lot. Not the layout or anything but the format.

And this post was a little too close to home for me.

People selling food could have told you what was happening two years ago. Apparently, they’re the first to get hit when people stop spending money.

Comment by Cetta on August 6th, 2008 @ 3:47 am

It’s a buyers market, what could you say?

Comment by Risa on August 7th, 2008 @ 12:14 pm

most anything that involves gas will go up..hence airline tickets-as they have to fuel those planes and most people stop traveling because they have to pay for food-which has gone up as trucks brought them to the stores..our minimum wage went up last month just because most people couldnt buy a weeks meal with what they earned in a week here.

It is strange that prices for the things you don’t need go down, but the things that you do, go up. I laugh at all the abandoned SUVs though.

Comment by Colleen on August 12th, 2008 @ 3:30 am

i fully agree with you on the strange prices, the things i dont need are on sale and the ones i want are even higher. ugh. but i was one of those people to buy real estate this year. the price was way to good to keep renting so i will be moving for the last time next month. i am very excited. i don’t think i would buy a suv no matter how low it got though. lol. take care.

yep, it’s always wise to evaluate the needs versus the wants. But when price gets in the picture, I guess one’s reaction should just be to switch priorities. haha

I know what you mean there are so many houses for sale in our neighborhood and its sad that people can’t afford things anymore. I dunno why people wanna get SUVs either it makes no sense not as expensive as gas is. We have a pretty good car it gets 23MPG which is pretty good right now.

Comment by Nicolah on August 13th, 2008 @ 1:22 pm

Right now would be a great time to buy a house. Too bad I don’t have the money for it or I definitely would.
